Southern Charter Little League ‘Sensations’ in WA

1 May 2014 Softball Australia

The Western Australia Little League State Championship for 2014 was decided on the Easter long weekend with the Southern Sensations claiming the title over their metropolitan rivals, the Northern Strikers.

The best of seven game series ebbed and flowed until the crucial sixth game, when the Sensations secured an unassailable games lead, four wins to two.  It was a resounding victory for the Sensations, 24-4, and came in response to a loss in game five, with the Strikers winning 19-12.

The Western Australia title also gives Southern Sensations the right to represent Australia at the Asia Pacific qualifying event in Iliolo, Phillipines from 28 June-6 July.  Success at the qualifying event would confer the Southern Sensations the opportunity to advance to the Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Oregon later in the year.

Softball Western Australia (Softball WA) remain buoyed by the extremely positive response to the introduction of Little League Softball for the 2013-14 summer season. Softball WA has enjoyed up to a threefold increase in teams at the same age group from the previous year.

Brittany Rumfelt, Softball WA Operations Manager, stated, “Little League Softball in WA is breaking new ground and is having the effect of bringing everyone together for the greater good of the game”.

Softball Australia congratulates the State Champions, Southern Sensations, and the valiant Northern Strikers.
